Holland Community Drinking Water Project

Holland Drinking Water Source Protection Plan (DWSP2)

What is it?

Holland has partnered with New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS-DEC) to help our town achieve cleaner drinking water via the Drinking Water Source Protection Plan (DWSP2). This project is important because water is an essential part of everyday life and we live on Buffalo/Niagara River Watershed which means our water ends up in Lake Erie. The Great Lakes encompass approximately 20% of the world’s fresh water.

Holland is uniquely positioned at the top of the watershed, so this means our pollution moves downstream to Lake Erie, affecting all communities along the way. Holland High School students have been working on this project for the past few years.
