    Summer Reading Expectations

    For ALL incoming 10th graders

Directions:  Your summer assignment is to read When I Was the Greatest by Jason Reynolds.

This book is widely available and can be purchased inexpensively on sites like eBay or Amazon starting at about $4.00. That said, if you anticipate you will have difficulty obtaining a copy, please see Ms. Amsden in room 139 for assistance before June 15th!

As you read, make notes about characters, themes, and main ideas. Make notes about literary devices you encounter, and passages you find meaningful.

Bring your book and these notes with you to school in September as you will receive credit for these.

Be prepared to write about this book in September.

***For incoming 10th grade Honors students only***

In addition to the assignment above, you should read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Please take notes as you read and be prepared to write about themes of power, search for identity, discrimination, inhumanity, and family.

I look forward to working with you in September!
